Yes, I know your friends, they are all subscribers to Swellengram. You should make a plan to come and stay in Swellendam in August, when we are putting on a new Festival – very, very different from past festivals. We are celebrating Lifestyle, Nature and Action. Carool’s quilters are hosting another International Exhibition at the Festival. The website for the Festival is not completed yet, as it is a work in Progress but you can see Carool’s plans for the festival if you look at the Big Bee website: http://www.bigbee.co.za

I now speak reasonably good Afrikaans and have turned the local museum ‘English’. If no one else is prepared to be chairperson or secretary then they must put up with English committee meetings! However no one in Tourism speaks acceptable English so I struggle through two hours of rapid Afrikaans once a month. All for a good cause I hope.
I have friends in Swellendam – perhaps Mrs Gram has come across them. Carol Podd, Neville Passmore, Rupert and Alida Erskine, and of course your wonderful quilter Carool. Been to Swellendam many times for heritage reasons, but don’t think I would like to live there. For my sins (of which there are many) I am also on the Heritage SA Council. Enjoy your day further – a direct translation of the Afrikaans!!

Having lived in the UK for 15 years, I can really appreciate it! Sorry you are not still with us at the Afrikaans lessons. We have progressed a bit and now with the swallows having flown home we were only two this last week.

Liz PageFri, 12 Apr 2013 10:51:07 +0000/blogs/swellendam/?p=197#comment-23Welcome to Africa! If you’re ever tempted to go north and find what’s on the other side of the grape curtain call in and say hello. Our Guest House – Coral Tree Colony B & B – is in Southbroom in KZN. We’d love to show you how the other half of the Rainbow Nation do it! Look out for us on Supersport during the SA Women’s Golf Open – literally taking place on our doorstep. Our Dave has threatened to set up a hotdog & hamburger stand on our side of the fence for the starving spectators at the 12th Green!! Have you ‘liked’ “Africa – this is why I live here” – amazing stories and pics. Best regards – Liz in Southbroom KZN
