Do you believe in the man in the moon or that the moon is made of cheese? Come and take a closer look at the full moon from the Afrikaanse Taalmonument on Paarlberg, at the last Full-moon Picnic of the season on Saturday 7 March 2015.

Local as well as international visitors enjoy these picnics for the unbeaten sunset and night time views of the valley.

Sunset will be at 19:15  and moonrise at 20:08. There will be guided tours of the monument at 18:30 and 19:30. The monument will be open until 22:00.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800). Volksmond will be open for coffee and light refreshments. Visitors are reminded to bring along a torch and warm clothes. No dogs and fires are allowed. Safe parking is available and access is controlled.

Entrance fees at the gate are R20 for adults, R10 for students and R5 for children (free under six years). No booking is required.

For more information about events at the Taalmonument, call 021 863 0543/4809 or visitwww.taalmonument.co.za.

The picnic series is presented in aid of the Taalmuseum’s reading project for children, Let’s Read! Visitors are encouraged to bring along a new or secondhand children’s book in support of the project.

  • A photography workshop, where participants learn to paint with light, is offered at the Full-moon Picnic on 7 March 2015. This practical workshop, by professional photographer and registered tour guide Peter Haarhoff, is suitable for beginner and intermediate photographers. To paint with light is a technique that involves a long exposure as you walk around in the shot with a light source like a torch, selectively illuminating areas and adding splashes of colour. A digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera, a tripod, a cable release and a torch is required. The workshop fee of R450 includes notes. Booking is essential. Contact Amira Clayton at tel. 021 863 0543/4809 or [email protected].
