In July 2014, The Cape Gallery will host Telling our story, a selection of local art. The exhibition essentially allows the viewer to become a spectator to the lives of ordinary people, providing intimate insight into their hopes, aspirations and personal challenges, while exhibiting a sense of unity and community.
Participating artists include: Ricky Dyaloyi, David Hlongwane, Patrick Holo, Sydney Holo, Luthando Lupuwana, Boyce Magandela, Lindile Magunya, Billy Mandindi, Vuyisani Mgijima, Xolile Mtakatya, Tendai Nhavira, Ricardo Nieuwoudt, Hargreaves Ntukwana, Theo Ntuntwana, Richard Rhode, Velile Soha, Solomon Siko, Robert Siwangaza, Meshack Tembani, Mandla Vanyaza and Wiseman Zwane
The celebration of culture in Velile Soha’s vibrant musician mono prints contrasts the cultural and social struggles in Robert Siwangaza’s 'We shall overcome' and Xolile Mtakatya’s 'Pennies from heaven… II', while the nodal areas in Lindile Magunya’s local township scenes offset the unobtrusive, pensive moments in Boyce Magandela’s 'From home to work I & II' and Mandla Vanyaza’s 'Mat weaver'. Telling our story reveals the empathy of a nation through stories told by ordinary people leading ordinary lives.
