If you are fun loving, food loving, family loving and festival loving.. then start your Christmas holiday with a weekend in Swellendam: join in the Amazing Berry Race for an adventure through this beautiful historic town, get your glad rags on for the Red Berry Ball, take your Berry Best Doggy friend for a 3k walk, get on your Bike for the Berries, Bikes and Beer Fun Ride.
The Wildebraam Berry Festival was started by the Wildebraam Berry Estate in the beautiful Hermitage Valley which grows over 75% of the youngberries in the world market.
This year the Wildebraam Berry Festival will take its rightful central role as part of the “SwellenBerry Weekend” December 5 – 7 on Saturday 6th. There will be local wines to tastes, craft beers and ciders - as well as berries, along with honey, cheeses, fruits, and organic produce which are all just part of the wonderful lifestyle the Republic of Swellendam has to offer. Arts and crafts and Live music all contribute to the ambience of this lovely countryside festival.
There are loads of activities for children to enjoy: tractor rides through the berry fields, puppet shows, water slide, balloon artist, face painting, boere sports, and a creche run by professionals for the littlest ones.
Throughout the town of Swellendam, berries will be celebrated with delicious berry banquets, cocktails, decor, dances and music from Friday to Sunday. The Amazing Berry Race gives teams of two a chance to explore Swellendam and show off their clue solving, as well as undergoing challenges and raising funds for four local charities. There is a social bike ride through the Marloth Nature reserve, and a dog walk through the Hermitage Valley. The Red Berry Ball on Saturday evening gives everybody a chance to 'glam up' and indulge in special Berry Cocktails. On Friday evening there is Late Night Christmas shopping, with carols, wine tasting, and stalls. And the weekend finishes off with the traditional Christmas Lights ceremony on December 7th.
Make a plan to start your Christmas holiday by visiting this quaint and quirky historical town, and have a weekend to remember!
