The Vergezient lodge embraces a homely atmosphere, with wood burning fire places and comfortable couches sprawled throughout the common areas, wooden framed windows boasting the most amazing view of the Drakensberg Mountains throughout the length of the lodge, the smell of freshly baked biscuits coming from the kitchen and antique furniture collected by the owner through the years. We prides ourselves in offering excellent service, friendly and helpful staff as well as delicious home-cooked meals -prepared from scratch in our kitchen. The Retreat is perfect for romantic couples as well as the whole family looking to go on holiday. Coffee/ tea and delicious homemade biscuits are freely available every day. The Honesty bar is always well stocked and offers guests wines, champagne, liqueurs, other spirits, soft drinks and snacks such as potato chips, peanuts and chocolates. We offer light lunches at the retreat as well as packed lunches for those going hiking; looking for a nutritious meal on the go.
On the retreats property we offer many hiking trails, all offering amazing views throughout the trails; some lead to San rock art sites and beautiful perennial waterfalls. There is also some mountain biking to be done on the property with a variety of trails to ride as well as the Retief pass, which allows a rider to visit the Voortrekker monuments in the area by bike.
The retreat is perfect for the individual looking for an escape of the busy city life, wanting to enjoy a tranquil, homely environment where one can relax and enjoy the breath-taking view. For the more adventurous we offer 800 hectares to explore by bike or on foot. Our trails range in difficulty and some can be quite challenging and technical, but always a lot of fun. Those who enjoy birding will love the variety of species here; with wattle cranes, secretary birds, red footed falcons, cape vultures and many other birds of prey being spotted regularly. The indigenous flora here is also worth exploring, especially in spring and summer as over 300 different species of wild grassland flowers come into bloom and cover the mountain sides and tops with what can only be described as Jewels of the Berg.
