Behind its unprepossessing facebrick facade lies one of the most remarkable guesthouses we've encountered. It simply exceeds expectations and grows on you the more you discover. It's filled with whimsy and humour, without losing sight of what guests really want - great beds, a relaxing and comfortable environment, and a memorable stay. It's not a "home away from home" (but is that what one really goes away for?), it's better than home! Just the DVDs and the books will make you want to stay longer.

Geoff and Charlise are warm hosts, and highly-competent hospitality professionalists. Breakfast was an 'occasion', a talking point, which will be remembered for a long time. For starters, that's one area which sets Mountain View Manor apart from other establishments. But it was Charlise running out the the car when we set off to explore the area... with "padkos"! Beautifully packaged and wrapped, with forks, Carrot Cake she had just baked. It was the best Carrot Cake we've ever had!

Sandbaai is sometimes regarded as a poor cousin to Hermanus proper, but we found it delightful. It's an area on the up. Mountain View Manor is a short walk from the beach, both sandy areas and fascinating rock pools, and vistas up and down the coast and back to the mountain. There is a 10-minute (wheelchair-friendly) coastal walk to Onrus beach where Geoff had recommended the Beach Bistro. No crowds for a long weekend Sunday lunch, but a great vibe and the best burger (R40) we've ever had. And great service. Right on the beach.

It's easy to recommend this establishment very highly, knowing that Geoff and Charlise will go out of their way to make your stay memorable.
