About the establishment
The Hangklip Hotel was built in 1939 just before Word War II, and over the years have been witness to many a story and holds many untold secrets...
This iconic landmark is one of the last old coastal hotels of yesteryear still in existence and operative. A decision was made and the temptation resisted to create yet another luxury boutique hotel that demands high rates from city slickers. Instead we have chosen to retain the innocence, simplicity and honesty of an era gone by, also typical of the old Transkei Hotels. With the hotel nestled at the foot of the Hangklip, we decided to create a homely, warm and cozy atmosphere suitable for the average budget and the more adventurous and outdoor person.
If it is glitz and glamour you want, this is certainly not the place to come to, but if you are seeking a wonderful setting in nature with spectacular surroundings and a base to explore the Overberg from, this is the most affordable, no-frills place to be.
Often friends group together and rent the entire hotel (up to 50 people) for a weekend and countless weddings have been enjoyed here that lasts for days on end with guests arriving from all over the world. Because our rates are so affordable, group weekend getaways are gaining popularity, making the Hangklip hotel the ideal home-away-from-home venue.
Typically people would arrive on a Friday evening after work and get together in one of the bars or the restaurant and sit around the fire, chat and relax. On Saturday some may choose to go fishing, cray-fishing or diving while others might visit the village shops and art studios, the penguin colony or take a walk through the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens in Betty's Bay. Discover the pristine beaches, the beautiful walk to the lighthouse, boat or fish and return for a glorious sunset and sundowners, maybe with a braai, and the option to party late into the night at Plankies. Sleep late if you wish on Sunday, have a hearty breakfast in the cozy restaurant or courtyard and join us for the Sunday Buffet (or a la carte menu) at the restaurant before relaxing for the afternoon and driving back along the spectacular coastal mountain pass that circles False Bay.
Once you have experienced the seductive charm of this affordable getaway venue and the magic of the surrounding Overberg, you will always want to come back and bring more friends. And you won't even have to wait for summer - this is a great place to experience all-year round.
The Hotel offers 9 rooms and 6 self-catering cottages.
It's not only the Hotel that's legendary, so is its Restaurant where Sunday Buffets are offered for day trippers. Call the restaurant on 028 273 8310
