Contact info
On the edge of the Hermanus Lagoon, Mosaic Lagoon Cafe' is in the historic 1892 Spookhuis. Gourmet picnics, cheese platters, delicious desserts, wine, spirits & speciality coffee and tea are enjoyed under a canopy of ancient milkwood trees on the edge of the Hermanus Lagoon. Or, if there is a chill in the air, around roaring fires in our café or library. What used to be the diary farm cheese cellar is now our well stocked wine cellar, highlighting the Walker Bay Wine Region. A boules court and plenty of sprawling lawn makes the Spookhuis the perfect place to spend a day with family and friends.
*NEW* Now serving Southern Style BBQ from our own smoker! Recipes inspired from Tennessee and Texas (pulled pork, beef brisket and chicken – menu changes), mixed with spices and homemade bread from Southern Africa. Fun activities are available from the Spookhuis: Quad biking, boat cruises on the lagoon, and Whale Coast beach trips. You can also get cosy in our library with your favourite beverage and browse through antique books and maps.
If you are are looking for a wedding venue on the water or a place for a special celebration, the 1892 Spookhuis is an absolutely gorgeous setting for your special celebration with family and friends. It is also used by many executives in South Africa as venue for their corporate retreats and team building sessions.
The Spookhuis was one of the original homesteads in the area. Built of stacked stone and finished in 1892, the structure is a local landmark and legend in South African History. It remained unoccupied for almost 50 years and was in a total state of ruin before the Johnson family restored it in 2008. Join us to learn why it has been known as the Spookhuis for decades, and flip through the photos of the graffiti filled walls.
