The Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en -monument in Paarl, in collaboration with the Dorkas and Buzzy Beez Women’s Clubs, will present a knit-athon in celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, on Saturday 12 July.
According to Catherine Snel, Manager of Heritage and Education at the Afrikaanse Taalmuseum, this initiative supports the purpose of Mandela Day to inspire individuals to make the world a better place by spending 67 minute of their time to make a change in someone’s life.
“We would like to warm the hearts of needy persons and help them to face the winter with a donation of knitted scarves, jerseys and blankets. We have already formed several groups who are knitting items in aid of this project. We challenge everyone to join us. If you can’t knit, we’ll teach you!”
The knit-athon starts at 10:00 in the Historium Conference Centre next to the Afrikaanse Taalmuseum and will end at 14:00. The knitted items will be distibuted to needy adults and children in Drakenstein on Nelson Mandela Day, Friday 18 July.
Participants must bring their own knitting kneedles, and are encouraged to donate wool, although wool could be supplied.
