The annual wildlife exhibition at The Cape Gallery grew out of an awareness of the existential connection we as people have with our natural heritage. Our encounters with animals; wild, domestic or tame pets makes us conscious of the interdependent life we lead and the need to be humane. Claude Levi Strauss suggested we are what we consume; predicating a need to cultivate a respect for what nurtures us.
Today, courtesy of the exhibiting artists using The Cape Gallery wildlife exhibition as a platform we are able to share and experience the ephemeral natural world in an urban setting. These artists spend time observing the awe inspiring mannerisms of the creatures we share the world with, prompted by a great respect and love for nature.
