A Students’ Project for Stanford South

Bernard Oberholzer, a Stanford resident, is a visiting lecturer in landscape architecture at the University of Cape Town.  He got his masters students to tackle a project that looked at the upgrading of the community centre and the creation of a pedestrian precinct and waterfront park at the interface between Stanford South and Stanford North, helping to integrate the historically divided village.

The study area provides a unique opportunity to create a lively, well designed and landscaped heart for the local community, and at the same time provide a decent level of amenity in a previously neglected precinct within a poorer area. It is hoped that the Municipality will draw inspiration from these student ideas.
