If you are fun loving, food loving, family loving and festival loving - then start your Christmas holiday with a weekend in Swellendam
Throughout the town of Swellendam, the berry season will be celebrated with delicious berry banquets, cocktails, decor, dances and music from Friday through to Sunday. A programme of exciting and unique activities will accompany the delicious berry feasts on offer.
SWELLENBERRY IS COMING…..Friday 4th December starts at SwellenMark Mall - live music, wine tasting, trolley dash, market, Christmas carols, children’s entertainment, and then the fun continues in the local community with exciting events including a street party, puppet show, more live music, celebrities, Father Christmas - and the switching on of the Christmas Lights - a historic occasion as this will take place for the first time in Railton!
Saturday 5th sees Three main events: The Wildebraam Berry Festival, with its wonderful crafts, liqueurs, breads, cheeses, olives and other delights, the Berry Amazing Race which takes teams on a puzzle solving, challenge breaking, fund raising adventure through the town, and the Skoffel Bessie Dans at the Wyn Tuin, where those who are light of foot can show off their skills at rieldans and langarm and those who aren’t so good can enjoy the spectacle!
Sunday 6th: a new event! The Ambagswerf at the Drostdy Museum is the place to be - for the BERRY BIG BRUNCH with a great picnic, live entertainment, and sports demos from local clubs, and an arts and crafts market. Then take a trip to enjoy the Christmas Lights event in Suurbraak, a really delightful community inspired event - with Father Christmas arriving in style on a horse-drawn cart.
You can register for the Berry Amazing Race online at www.swellenberry.co.za if you would like to participate. Teams of two plus an optional third mascot (prizes are for two only) can enter – the fee is R100 per couple, and the registration fee goes straight into the account of the charity you have chosen. You will only receive your first clue when you have registered.
