Indlovu River Lodge

In the heart of the 9.000 ha Karongwe Private Game Reserve the beautiful Indlovu River Lodge is located on the tranquil banks of the Kuvjename River. It is here that guests come to for drawing in the unsurpassed peace of the bush, experiencing the timeless sensations of Africa and exploring this world of splendour. We consider Indlovu River Lodge your second home in the bush where we provide friendship, relaxation and comfort combined with an unforgettable African safari experience.

The prime bushveld with its seasonal rivers and rocky outcrops provides for exceptional game viewing and birding. The reserve is home to over 350 bird species, with big game that includes elephant, rhino, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah. Our qualified game rangers and trackers will sweep you off into the bush. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of nature on game drives and bush walks and capture that perfect photograph.

Rooms:

Chalet Shingwedzi

Shingwedzi is our most prized chalet settled directly on the banks of the Kuvjename River. It accommodates up to four people. The chalet features a very elegant open kitchen and lounge with leather armchairs. The generously laid out master bedroom on the first floor leads out onto a small balcony for surveying the surroundings. The chalet's timber veranda, plunge pool and private boma provide idyllic vantage points onto the Kuvjename River and the spectacular Drakensberg Mountain Range in the distance. A spotlight directed onto the river allows for spotting nocturnal animals.

Shingwedzi’s kitchen is fully equipped with an electric stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer, cutlery and crockery. We provide ground coffee, tea, sugar and milk and service the chalet daily. The chalet has full Wifi coverage. We offer both self-catering and full board options for this unit. Self-caterers wishing to accommodate a party of up to 6 guests at no extra cost may contact us directly (depending on availability).

Chalet Kambaku

Chalet Kambaku can accommodate up to nine people in three double en-suite rooms on the ground floor, and one further double room and a single bed on the first floor. The main feature of Kambaku is a large, inviting rock pool to cool down in on a hot summer’s day. The adjacent pool deck offers views directly onto the Kuvjename River below and onto the majestic Drakensberg Mountains in the distance. The big, private boma is the perfect venue for barbecuing under the stars and no child has yet passed up on the trampoline located in the gardens.

The heart of this chalet most certainly is the open kitchen and dining/living area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer, cutlery and crockery. We provide ground coffee, tea, sugar and milk and service the chalet daily. The chalet is partly Wifi covered and a TV is located in the living area. You are welcome to bring your own decoder and DSTV card should you wish to watch other channels than SABC1, 2, or 3. Chalet Kambaku is open to self-caterers.

Chalet Shawu

Chalet Shawu sleeps four people in the main house with two double en-suite bedrooms on the first floor with access onto a balcony. A fully equipped kitchen, a small library and a gym make up the remaining rooms of the main house.

Attached to the main house is a large dining cum lounge area with a distinct African feel as well as a large terrace for brunching or dining under open skies. The lodge’s meals are served here.

Unique to Shawu’s gardens is a small gazebo – originally built for a wedding – which overlooks the Kuvjename River. A sparkling pool with a lapa for shade as well as a boma around the back offer ample space for spending leisure time outdoors.

Shawu’s kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer, cutlery and crockery. We provide ground coffee, tea, sugar and milk and service the chalet daily. The chalet has full Wifi coverage and a TV is located by the bar in the large dining area. We offer both self-catering and full board options for this unit. Self-caterers wishing to accommodate a party of up to 8 guests at no extra cost may contact us directly (depending on availability).

River Suite

Adjacent to chalet Shawu lies our superior River Suite with its king size bed and an open plan bathroom. The bed and leather lounging chairs face a massive, beautifully framed window looking out onto the Kuvjename River. The back door opens to a private, tropical garden with a lit walkway leading to an outdoor shower – a unique feature to our honeymoon suite. A bench at the entrance invites you to linger and absorb the sights and smells of an African evening.

Coffee and tea making facilities stocked with ground coffee, tea, sugar and milk, as well as a bar fridge are provided. The suite has full Wifi coverage and is serviced daily. Guests in the River Suite are catered for fully, including three meals and two game activities per day.

Honeymoon Suite

This brand new, modern style, superior double suite featuring an open plan bathroom is tucked away in the far corner of the lodge’s grounds. Ndlulamithi’s large crystal chandeliers reflect the sparkling African sun during the day and light the suite at night. The front of this suite is made up of glass folding doors which open up onto a large deck and infinity pool, affording boundless views of the Kuvjename River. A night cap may be enjoyed around the fireplace located below the deck.

Coffee and tea making facilities stocked with ground coffee, tea, sugar and milk, as well as a bar fridge are provided. The suite has full Wifi coverage and is serviced daily. Guests in the Honeymoon Suite are catered for fully, including three meals and two game activities per day.
