Popular Afrikaans group Die Heuwels Fantasties is to perform as part of the Garden Theatre Picnic Series at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument in Paarl on Friday 10 April 2015. The picnic series is held in aid of the “Laat ons lees!” reading project for children.

Die Heuwels Fantasties (translated as Fantastic Hills) is an Afrikaans alternative pop rock group. This ground-breaking group is considered to be the first successful Afrikaans electronic act. They describe their music as “melodic songs written on acoustic guitar, interpreted with electronic and organic instruments.  You can call it pop.”

They are revered for their unique music and their energetic live performances and have gathered a large and wide fan base since their inception in 2008.  Die Heuwels Fantasties has played at all the major festivals in South Africa and has shared the stage with notable international acts, including Kings of Leon. They have also toured to the Netherlands, Belgium and UK.

The show begins at 19:00 in the Garden Theatre, located on the lawn right at the foot of the monument. Visitors are welcome to bring their own drinks (no glass) and picnic basket or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800). Coffee, beer, wine and light refreshments will be for sale.

Tickets are pre-sold through Computicket as well as at the Taalmonument, at R130 for adults, R120 for students and R60 for children under 13 year. A limited number of tickets will be available at the gate. Remember to bring a blanket or cushion and warm clothes. Safe parking is available and access is controlled. No dogs or fires are allowed.
