We shall celebrate heritage day with a talk titled "The theory of relativity", commemorating the work of Albert Einstein. The talk will be presented by Dr. Pierre Fleury at South African Astronomical Observatory, this Saturday, September 24 at 20h00.

Stargazing is weather dependent.

Summary of the talk

One century ago, Albert Einstein proposed a theory which unified the concepts of space, time, and gravity. Besides being surely the most aesthetic construction in the whole history of physics, the theory of relativity remains unchallenged in its performance to explain the natural phenomena it deals with, from the Big Bang to the Solar System, from black holes to gravitational waves. In this outreach talk, Dr. Fleury will propose an introduction to the main concepts of relativity, which he will make as accessible and entertaining as possible.
