Evolution of the Universe
Prof. Andreas Faltenbacher from Wits University will give a talk titled "Photons – messengers from the astronomical past" on Saturday, July 11 at 20h00 at South African Astronomical Observatory.
Summary of the talk
The United Nations have declared the year 2015 as the “International Year of Light”. The talk will focus on photons, light particles, which travel for billions of years form the furthermost parts of the Universe until they hit the mirrors of our telescopes. They are messengers of a distant astronomical past and thus allow us to gain an idea of the evolution of the Universe.
