CapeInfo received the following notification from Montagu recently. For this sleepy hollow, it’s quite a call to arms! A subsequent post will look into the causes for this obvious sense of frustration and the outcomes of the meeting.
Citizens should always be cautious of expecting too much of their municipalities or government. Establishing and strengthening civil society institutions is always the far better option, and local government needs to nurture and support these. Less government, not more!
MONTAGU PUBLIC MASS MEETING: 17 APRIL, 18H30 – HOFMEYER HALL
PLEASE DIARISE & FORWARD – YOUR VILLAGE WLL THANK YOU !!!
DETAILS AS FOLLOWS:
There have been numerous incidents in the past few years that challenged the concept of our Municipality being a “public servant” to the Langeberg Community.
It is the clear mandate for any Municipality to focus on Local Economic development for the Towns they represent and with this as the main focus there is much to say about the sustainability of such development for the future of Montagu.
The three legs for Local Economic Development in the Langeberg are clearly : Agriculture, Business and Tourism – with strong relationships between each of these legs and Tourism having the strongest influence for a future of growth.
To name a few important “issues” that all relate to strengthening Tourism in Montagu (and the Langeberg) as well as ensuring a sustainable future of Local Economic development, the following will be on the Agenda for the Public meeting:
- Tourism and the Support Structures
- AgriTourism
- Business potential in collaboration with Tourism
- Strengths and Attractions of Montagu
- Montagu Mountain Reserve
- Montagu Nature Garden
- Montagu Leiwater Dam & Parks
- Protecting and promoting a Unique Heritage
- Conservation of our Historical buildings & maintenance of the CBD area
- Municipal Support Services
- Community involvement – Collaborative efforts
The strength and power to TAKE BACK OUR TOWN and make it clear to our Municipality that “we’re not gonna take it anymore” lies in numbers — thus your presence as well as your voice is much needed at this PUBLIC MASS MEETING.
Please forward to other community-minded and concerned citizens.
