Get ready for the 2014 Afrika Burn Festival. The only other event like it takes place in the Navada Desert of the USA. A years worth of planning, dreaming and creating comes together to create a thought up town, Tankwa Town. This is a festival of imagination and magic.
Afrika Burn is an annual event that takes place in the Northern capes' Tankwa Karoo. Every year a theme is created to aid the creativity of the community involved, this years theme is "The Trickster". The event allows all individuals to express themselves through the arts (music, dance, art). There is no centre stage, but there is a myriad of spaces to perform. The event focuses on expression for everyone who attends, this is what makes AfrikaBurn different to anything else you have ever experienced. Performers will have to register their performance with the event organisers and they will help set you up with others that can assist in your performance.
The Tankwa Karoo is an arid semi-desert area located in the Northern Cape of South Africa. Tankwa is approxamately 300km (kilometers) north of Cape Town and situated on the longest stretch of road in South Africa without petrol stations, being prepared is key to having a great time. The wheather is also hot in the day and can get extremely cold at night. The roads travelled to get to the venue are rocky and can become dangerous at high speeds. It is advised to exercise caution.
With all these things considered, if you are well prepared, this is an event like no other. Allow yourself the luxury of exploring your creativity or be inspired by the creativity that will surround you. There are a couple of things that the event organisers suggest for you to bring with, especially if you are a first timer, it will be helpfull to visit the site and have a look.
