THE STANFORD CONSERVATION AND HERITAGE TRUST
THE STANFORD CONSERVATION AND HERITAGE TRUST.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Trust are:
To protect and conserve for future generations the environment in all its forms – air, landscape, soil, water, flora and fauna, including aquatic and bird life – in the urban and rural areas commonly known as Stanford.
To protect and conserve Stanford’s heritage resources and to ensure that development that takes place is aesthetically consistent with that heritage.
To further the protection and conservation of the environment and heritage of Stanford by:
Conserving the rural, historic and “village” character of the town of Stanford.
Conserving public open spaces and promoting the greening of the town.
Protecting the riverine environment and maintaining it as a communal natural resource.
Safeguarding the town's fresh, clean water supply ("Die Oog") and, to this end, assisting the local authority to conserve and protect this and other sources.
Ensuring that developments in and around the town do not outstrip the water resource's capacity and to monitor the operation of the traditional "leiwater" system.
Registering the interest of the Trust in the conservation of the heritage resources in the Stanford area with the relevant heritage resources authorities and, if necessary, to enter into heritage agreements with national and provincial heritage authorities for the conservation, improvement or presentation of a clearly defined heritage resource.
Identifying heritage resources in the Stanford area so as to apply for their protection and management in terms of the laws applicable to such resources.
Establishing and promoting compliance with “Development and Preservation of Heritage Guidelines” both for the maintenance and restoration of older buildings and for the placement, design and construction of new buildings.
The Development and Preservation of Heritage.
Supporting and, wherever possible, assisting local, provincial or national government actions consistent with the Trust's objectives and conversely and opposing any actions inconsistent with them.

Liaising and collaborating with any authority, organization, official or individual sharing the Trust's objectives.
