The pretty images obtained from telescopes, what we can see with unaided eyes makes astronomy, amongst all the sciences inspirational.
Join us on Saturday July 26 at 20h00 at SA Astronomical Observatory for a talk presented by Thuso Simon, a PhD candidate at UCT. The title of his talk is "Astronomy talk titled: A failure of serendipity: The search for Extraterrestrial Life"
Summary of the talk
Astronomy, amongst all the sciences is unusual in it's ability to inspire. The pretty images that we obtain from large telescopes showcasing the massive scale and structure of astronomical objects provide a perspective of the Universe that is within and beyond our reach at the same time. Unfortunately, these telescopes are very expensive to build and requires hours of training and in some cases a PhD to use. But it can be just as rewarding to create your own images. All you need is a clear sky and a camera. Thuso Simon will talk about considerations to think about if you want to get into astro-photography.
