Brydon Havercroft (good looking cook!) and Innes (rude wife!) have delighted guests local and from afar for over ten years in this country kitchen and larder situated just outside the village of Stanford on the R43.
Although they take the food seriously, from devilled kidneys to slow roast pork belly with apple and beetroot preserve, the atmosphere is one of humour and wit. Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding are always on the Sunday lunch menu.
havercroft’s overlooks the Klein River with fabulous views of the mountains and vineyards. Brydon has a stall at the Saturday Stanford market selling cream horns, florentines, chicken pies, éclairs and “many other incredibly slimming” products as Innes says. One should never let vanity overrule one’s appetite is the method amongst the madness in this truly bucolic environment.
Opening for lunch thursday friday saturday and sunday.
